For a long time, I’ve wanted to develop and broaden the experience around my workshops. And now, it has finally happened! I’ve found the perfect place and match.
Soon, when the fields are lush and green, and the Nordic summer nights are light, you’ll be able to join me for a two-day retreat in Denmark on the scenic island of Ærø, situated in the South Funen Archipelago. The retreat will take place at the beautiful old farm Gravendal, where Mette Meldgaard runs her fantastic Bed & Breakfast, and where she works her magic in the kitchen with wild, fresh, local ingredients.
At Gravendal, we will explore the diversity of nature just outside the door. You’ll learn how to create your own unique botanical prints, while enjoying delicious homemade meals, the charm of Gravendal, and its simple aesthetics.

During the retreat, you will learn the plant print techniques Hapa Zome and monotype, both of which can be used on paper and fabric. We will collect fresh plants to use in the print processes. For Hapa Zome, we use the plants’ natural colors, and for the monotype prints, we’ll use colors and gel printing plates. After participating, you’ll be able to continue working with these techniques at home.
The best part is… no prior experience is necessary—everyone is welcome!
A BIT MORE ABOUT METTE AND GRAVENDAL
Overlooking Marstal Bay, you’ll find the beautiful old family farm Gravendal from the 18th century. Since 2020, Mette Meldgaard has welcomed guests to stay, dine, enjoy retreats, and take part in guided experiences in the surrounding nature. Gravendal accommodates up to 20 overnight guests.

Breakfast / Introduction to monotype printing technique / Walk in nature to collect plants / Lunch / Monotype plant print workshop with gel plates / Dinner / Open workshop for those who want to continue / Snacks and wine

Breakfast / Final workshop / Lunch
The price for all of this is 2,900 DKK per person for accommodation in a shared room, or 3,900 DKK per person for accommodation in a single room. This price includes 2 overnight stays, full board with food and drinks, teaching, and workshop materials.
